Harold "Percy" Weathers

Harold Weathers, 95, of Fort Calhoun died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. A Masonic graveside service with Legion Honor Guard will follow at the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Harold "Percy" Weathers was born Feb. 2, 1915, in Brown County, Kan., to Fred and Mary (Schreiber) Weathers. He grew up in Rulo.

He served with the CCC Camp. He joined the United States Army on July 17, 1942, as a Combat Engineer in the Pacific. He served until October 6, 1945.

On Jan. 24, 1948, he married Mary Prochnow.

In 1949, Mr. Weathers was called a hero by "Ak-Sar-Ben" for saving the life of a young lady involved in a boating accident on the Missouri.

Mr. Weathers was employed for more than 30 years with Massman Construction, working on the Missouri River as a pile driver and bridge builder.

He was an active member of the American Legion since 1949 and was recognized by the Masonic Solomon #10 Lodge with the Jordan Medal for over 50 years of service.

He is survived by brothers, Stan "Stormy" Weathers Sr. of Houston, Texas, and John E. Weathers of Amarillo, Texas; sister, Ruby Shepherd of Stockton, Calif.; nephews and nieces; sisters-in-law Lillian Prochnow of Fort Calhoun, Sharline Prochnow of Dallas, Texas, and Clista Prochnow of San Diego, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and sister, Hazel Rakestraw.
