Elizabeth E. Shortridge Wallace

Elizabeth, daughter of Harrison and Mary Jane Loder Shortridge, was born at the family home now owned and occupied by George Kelsey, four miles southwest of Milton, Feb. 3, 1836. She was one of nine children, three of whom survive, Sanford, William and Ira.

She was married Dec. 16, 1852, to Richard Wallace, who deceased at Wabash, Feb. 1893. They were the parents of seven children, Mrs. Eliza A. Warren, Milton: Mrs. Mary J. Barlett, Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Emma F Wallace, Wabash; Mrs. Martha Macy, Eau Gallie, Fla.; Albert Monroe, deceased at the age of five years; Mrs. Adda Shull and William O. Wallace, Melbourne, Fla. There are sixteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

More than fifty years ago Mrs. Wallace and her husband united with the Plum Creek Christian church, Rush county, Ind. On coming to Milton they were active in reorganizing the church at this place, she being the last survivor of the little group. Their home was shared by the preacher and casual evangelist who helped establish the cause more firmly. By a gentle and humble life which blesses her family and friends she attested her faith in Christ. She rarely missed a service at church when able to attend.

As age advanced "the Christian's home in glory," of which she and her husband often sang, became very real to her and she longed to join the loved ones who had preceded her, asking that no tears be shed at her departure. Jan. 9, 1917, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 6 days, she entered into rest at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Warren in Milton.

As a cloud of sunset slow melting in heaven,
as a star that is lost when the daylight is given,
As a glad dream of slumber awakens in bliss,
She has passed to the world of the Holy from this.

A short funeral service was conducted by Rev. McCormick at the home of Mrs. Warren Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The music was given by Mesdames Henry Hussey, F.M. Jones, Ernest Doty and Edw. Wilson. On Thursday morning the body, accompanied by the family and other relatives, was taken to Wabash for #internment in the family lot at Falls cemetery.
