Frances 'Frankie' Cecelia Rosetta Shortridge

WENDELL -- Frances (Frankie) Cecelia Rosetta Shortridge passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Lincoln County Care Center in Shoshone, Idaho.

Born June 13, 1921, to Joe and Verna Rosetta, Frankie grew up on her parents' farm in Osage City, Kan., with her older sister, Helen. The girls went to school in Kansas. The family moved to Los Angeles, Calif., in 1937.

As a young adult, Frankie worked at various jobs. In 1938 she met Ronald Shortridge, and they were married June 25, 1939. Ron served in the Navy during World War II and Frankie worked in a defense plant and raised their first daughter, Virginia. After returning from the Navy, Ron worked construction, and Steve and Sherri were born. Frankie and Ron loved camping, boating and traveling with their children as they grew up and with their grandchildren and adopted grandchildren in their retirement. In 1963, they lost their oldest daughter, Virginia, in an automobile accident. They remained in Orange County, Calif., to raise Steve and Sherri. In 1975, their oldest granddaughter came to live with them. They moved to Wendell, Idaho, in 1981 to be near Sherri and her family. Ronald passed away in 1996 after 57 years of marriage.

Frankie stayed in Wendell with Sherri and Augie living next door in "her little house." She was a loving mother, grandmother, friend and good listener. She was very happy there until she had to enter into nursing home care a year ago. Our sincere thanks to her caregivers at Lincoln County Care Center for being so kind and attentive and making her final journey comfortable and peaceful. It was a great comfort to her family.

Frankie is survived by her daughter, Sherri (Augie) Sorichta; and grandson, Lonnie Sorichta of Wendell and Boise; son, Steve Shortridge of California; granddaughters, Lori Eddy of Oklahoma and Christi Berry of Oregon; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

There will be no service at this time. We will have a small graveside memorial in early summer so she can rejoin her love of 57 years, Ronald. Everyone is welcome to come by Sherri's home anytime Saturday, Jan. 12, to visit with the family.
