Glenn Arden McKimpson

Glenn Arden McKimpson, son of Erden Roy McKimpson and Stella Maude Hampton McKimpson, was born September 30, 1922 in Coon Rapids, Iowa. He departed this life August 4, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 86.

Glenn grew up in Union county and later moved to Clarke County, graduating from Osceola High School in 1940 with a Normal Training Certification. He taught school one year and farmed with his dad. He served his country during World War II from 1943-1946 in the European Theater. He was a member of Herndon-Oehlert Post 157 of American Legion in Woodburn.

Glenn married Darlene Mary Herndon on February 12, 1947 at the Chariton Christian Church. Two children blessed this union: Glenis and Darl. Glenn was a member of Woodburn Christian Church where he served as Elder for many years.

In addition to being a lifelong farmer, Glenn worked as carpenter, nurseryman for Des Moines Seed and Nursery, and retired after 18 years as Asst. Maintenance engineer for Clarke County Hospital. He enjoyed reading, gardening and woodworking.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carolyn in infancy; and brother, Donley McKimpson.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 62 years, Darlene McKimpson of Osceola; children, Glenis (Jim) Renoe of Norwalk and Darl (Lori) McKimpson of Ankeny; grandchildren, Sara (Vasken) Renoe Haroutunian of Pleasant Hill, Travis (Mandi) Renoe of Des Moines, Nick Renoe of Altoona, Kelsey McKimpson of Kansas City, Kyle McKimpson of Ankeny; great-grandchildren, James Renoe and Kaylea Renoe; step great-grandchildren, Tyler Schuchard and Addison Bogert; brother, Grendel McKimpson of Oelwein; sister-in-law, Rosie McKimpson of Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Glenn loved his family and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He has left us but will never be forgotten.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, August 7, 2009 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola.
