Sabetha Resident Lived In the County 68 Years.

A. G. McCoy, 81 years old, who died October 26 at his home in Sabetha, came to Kansas in March 1877. He lived on a farm in the Maple Ridge community near Sabetha with his parents and remained in that community after his marriage to Nina Flora Shortridge in 1899. His wife, three daughters and two sons survive him. Charles McCoy, Seneca, is a son. Mr. McCoy was a member of the Oneida Masonic Lodge and the former Modern Woodman Lodge of Woodlawn and took great interest and pleasure in the work of both organizations.

Archie Glass McCoy, son of James and Jane McCoy, was born in Port Kenedy, Penn., June 9, 1864 and died at his home October 26, 1945, aged 81 years four month and 17 days. He came to Kansas with his parents in March 1877. They settled in the Maple Ridge community and there he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Nina Flora Shortridge of Willis, Kas., on March 1, 1899. They established their home on a farm near his parents and continued to live there until his death.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Oneida, and the former Modern Woodman Lodge of Woodlawn. He took a great interest and pleasure in the work of both organizations. He united with the Methodist church in his early youth and remained in that faith to the end.

His interest centered in his family and he enjoyed visiting with his neighbors and friends. He had an unusual memory and took great pleasure in recalling events and friendships of a lifetime. He also took a personal interest in local and national affairs.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters: Mrs. Myrtle Deaver, Weldon, Ia.; Mrs. Ruth Alley, Hiattville, Kas.; and Mrs. Vera Niccum, Sabetha; two sons: Charles McCoy of Seneca and James Oliver of the home; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandson, Raymond Judd Keithley of Seneca; three sisters: Mrs. Charlotte Ford, Osage City, Kas.; Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, Puyallup, Wash.; and Anna McCoy of Syracuse, Kas.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Popkess Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Wallace Carpenter, a life long friend, now living at Belleville, Kas. Mrs. George Althouse and Mrs. Earl Reed sang favorite hymns. Pall bearers were friends of a life time, Ed McCarty, Claude Anderson, Eli Brunner, John Barndt, W. C. Gilmore and Curtis Gilmore. Interment was in the Woodlawn cemetery.
