Jeremiah Coffin

Jeremiah Coffin, prominent Clay Township (Washington County) farmer, born near Elwood, Ind., Dec 20 1844, died May 29 1919 aged 74-5-9.

In the spring of 1856 he moved with his parents Hervey and Rachel Coffin, to Pleasant Plain, Iowa, where he grew to manhood and resided until his death. Apr 18 1872 married Martha Ann Bray and soon afterward moved to the farm which has been their home since then. Nine children, eight still living, one daughter, Cora, having died in infancy.

Surviving are wife and eight children: Emma, Minnie Elmore, Clyde and Artalissa of Pleasant Plain, Roscoe of Minneapolis, Minn.; Leroy of Des Moines; Charles of Oskaloosa; and Mary McCracken of Richland; 12 grandchildren, one greatgrandchild, two brothers and two sisters: Wm. Coffin and Deborah Williams of Adel, Henry Coffin and Phoebe Jones of Veo.

For more than a third of a century was an Elder in the Friends meeting of Pleasant Plain. . . . .loving and devoted husband and father. . . . .His was a life full of Christian activity. Interment in Friends Cemetery at Pleasant Plain.
