Techla Menger

Techla Menger, blond and blue-eyed, was born in Rudolphstadt, Saxony, Germany and married Julius Fischer about 1850 in Lawrence, Kansas.

After her husband Julius' death in 1902, she sold the home at 702 Rhode Island and for many years lived in an apartment over the shoe store where her latchstring was always out for relatives and friends. She was a strong character with a keen sense of right and wrong, and in later years became a Unitarian after her Methodist origins.

She died at Tonganoxie, Kansas September 25, 1923, aged about 73.
