Lyman Dwight David

Life long resident of Monte Vista, Lyman Dwight David, DVM died May 21, 2007 in Monte Vista.

He was born Oct. 26, 1922 in Monte Vista to Leroy H. and Myrtle Wright Daavid, and married Jane Freienmuth on July 31, 1948, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Alamosa.

Dr. David was a graduate of Sargent High School in 1940 and Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1944 where he was a member of the Alpha Psi Fraternity, an Honorary Veterinary Science Society. He was a life member of the Colorado State University Alumni Association and the Colorado State Veterinary Association. He was also a member of the James G. Hamilton American Legion Post 53.

Dwight especially enjoyed being with his family at their cabin in Camp Collier, which he built with the help of his children. He also made frequent visits to Campo La Roca, Baja California, Mexico with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved his dog Mica, woodworking, Civil War reading and spending time with his grandchildren who lovingly called him "Pa".

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Eugene David and his sister Lucille Judd.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Jane, of Monte Vista, his children, Byron (Judy) David of South Fork, William (Cindy) David of Peoria, Ariz. and Nina (Phil) Smartt of Monte Vista; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two step grandchildren; his brother Dale (Maxyne) David of Lynhurst, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, May 24, at the Sargent Community Church. Contributions are requested to either the Monte Vista Carnegie Library or the Monte Vista Cemetery Association through the mortuary office.
